The sun finally came out in the early afternoon. Pomeroy lake was right in front of me and just beautiful in the full sunlight. Nary a soul was there this afternoon. Just myself and the mountains.

Pomery lake sits in a horsehoe canyon and is found at 12,035 feet. Mountains on three sides of it and just one place for all the water to go. As far as high-mountain lakes go - this one is pretty big. It looks like it covers a number of acres. In fact there is another small lake just above the the main one shown here.

Mountain lakes are clear and Pomeroy is no exception. Such lakes are so clear because they are fed by the new melting snow. In this canyon, on this July afternoon, there is still snow nestled on the slopes. Pomery still grows.
